Hi! My name is Ashley Moore, I am now a junior at Temple University majoring in English. I am very excited to be interning with the Philadelphia Writers’ Conference! It has been a great experience so far and I cannot wait to attend the actual conference.

I have been writing since I was very young, and had my first short story published in an anthology for kids when I was eleven years old. Since then, I have always been on the lookout for ways to learn new styles of writing as well as opportunities to help me improve. I hope to work for a publishing company someday, and also to write a few novels, so when I heard about the Annual Philadelphia Writers’ Conference I signed up immediately! (And I really appreciated the 50% discount for being a current student.)

The speaker I am looking forward to hearing the most is definitely Sara Shepard; I have been a big fan of the Pretty Little Liars series (and the television show) for a few years now. Sara Shepard is an extremely talented writer, and has always amazed me with her ability to keep her readers guessing what will happen next in all of her book series. Also, she grew up a few minutes away from where I live, which is pretty cool too.

I had a very difficult time picking out which 3-day workshops I was going to attend, as all of them sounded awesome and have so much to offer. Finally, I was able to settle on the few that I think would benefit me the most. I am really looking forward to The Novel: Creating Captivating Characters led by Suzanne Palmieri. I checked out her blog earlier this evening and all of her books sound captivating! I will definitely be looking into those soon. I will also be taking The Art of Writing, Publishing, and Marketing Young Adult Fiction, led by Catherine Stine. YA Fiction is a very popular field of writing that I would love to get into, and I know that you need a special set of skills to be able to make your writing stand out among others. The last workshop I will be attending is Writing the Novel by Solomon Jones. Pretty self-explanatory, but again, I hope it will offer lots of skill-learning opportunities to help me improve.

I certainly expect to fill my new notebook with lots of creative ideas, tips, exercises and more for my writing. I cannot wait to meet the others who will be attending the conference this year, and I hope some of you are also college students like me!

p.s.- I will be taking lots of pictures to post here on our blog as well as our social media pages, so come prepared! 🙂
